The recently formed Theatre Producers of Color (TPOC) organization has announced the return of its annual Producing 101 program, which supports aspiring BIPOC producers through tuition-free information sessions.

Applications are now open for the 11-week program, which covers the fundamentals of commercial producing, including financial models, development paths, scaled budgeting, and more.

Since the first program launched in 2021, aspiring producers from across the world have participated in Producing 101. Recent alumni have participated in the production teams of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, Dana H., Is This A Room, and more.

Producer Sammy Lopez (A Christmas Carol, Be More Chill), who serves as the overall program mentor, says, "We're not only examining the commercial producing industry as it currently exists but building a community of theatre-makers who share the perspective of creating art as a vehicle for change on and off the stage. I'm honored to return as the 2023 program mentor and encourage transparent reflection of our theatre-producing practices."

Guest speakers for the 2023 program will include Jill A. Anderson, Osh Ashruf, Rashad V. Chambers, Samuel Dallas, Ken Davenport, Ben Holtzman, Toni Isreal, Nicole Javanna Johnson, Dale Mott, Doug Nevin, Leslie Papa, Ilene Rosen, Matt Ross, Erica Rotstein, Heather Shields, Ron Simons, Rachel Sussman, Cynthia J. Tong, and Ava Xiao-Lin Rigelhaupt.
