Antonio Banderas Says He’s Coming Back to Broadway | Playbill

Broadway News Antonio Banderas Says He’s Coming Back to Broadway The star of Nine has a new theatre project in the works.

Three-time Golden Globe nominee Antonio Banderas visited Live With Kelly & Ryan April 18 and revealed that he has a new theatrical project in the works.

Banderas made his Broadway debut as Guido Contini in the 2003 revival of Nine, a time he calls “my happiest time in America as a professional.”

The actor won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical and was nominated for a Tony Award. He also earned a 1997 Golden Globe nomination for his performance as Ché in the movie musical adaptation of Evita. When asked if he would return to Broadway, Banderas replied: “I think I am going to, actually. In a very strange way. I bought a theatre in my hometown in Málaga.”

Banderas says the theatre has two spaces, including a 260-seat theatre for children’s theatre and new voices. But he plans to put the space to personal use, too. “I am in the middle of a deal with a very strong producer here on Broadway to do the previews in Málaga and then to bring the play here,” he said.

No other details have been announced.
