The Tony-nominated musical plays a milestone performance June 15 at Broadway's Plymouth Theatre.

The Tony-nominated musical Come From Away becomes the longest-running show in the 105-year history of the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre June 15 when it plays its 1,544th Broadway performance, surpassing the original production of Jekyll & Hyde.

The international hit musical musical is celebrating the milestone with an honorary street renaming of West 45th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues to Come From A-Way for the day. 

Come From Away is also welcoming former stars who have appeared on the Schoenfeld (formerly the Plymouth Theatre) stage for the June 15 evening performance to mark the occasion, including Tony winner André De Shields (Ain’t Misbehavin’), Tony nominee Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde), Tony nominee Christiane Noll (Jekyll & Hyde), Tony nominee Hunter Foster (The Bridges of Madison County), and Maulik Pancholy (It’s Only A Play).

After 1,670 performances and 25 previews on Broadway, Come From Away will play its final Broadway performance October 2, making it the 49th longest-running production in Broadway history and the most successful Canadian musical of all time.

The Broadway company currently features Petrina Bromley, De’Lon Grant, Becky Gulsvig, Caesar Samayoa, James Seol, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren, Emily Walton, Jim Walton, Gene Weygandt, Sharon Wheatley, Paul Whitty, Josh Breckenridge, John Jellison, Tony LePage, Monette McKay, Happy McPartlin, and Julie Reiber.

Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 stranded air passengers during the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. The ensemble cast take on a variety of roles, from travelers to locals to airline personnel.

The show features music, lyrics, and a book by Irene Sankoff and David Hein with direction by Tony winner Christopher Ashley, choreography by Olivier winner Kelly Devine, music supervision and arrangements by Ian Eisendrath, scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Gareth Owen, orchestrations by August Eriksmoen, and casting by Rachel Hoffman of The Telsey Office.

After opening on Broadway March 12, 2017, the musical was nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. There are three other global productions of Come From Away: the Olivier-winning production in London’s West End, the North American tour, and the Australian national tour. The musical will return to Toronto following a run at Ottawa's National Arts Centre in July 2024.

The film capture of Come From Away began streaming on Apple TV+ September 10, 2021, while a free, in-person concert staging of the musical was presented in front of the Lincoln Memorial that same day.
