Waitress opened on Broadway in 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Based on the 2007 film by the late Adrienne Shelly, the musical follows a southern diner employee who dreams of escaping her abusive marriage through her creatively titled pies and a tryst with her OB/GYN. The show features a score by Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles and a book by Jessie Nelson. Tony winner Diane Paulus directs.
The musical earned four 2016 Tony nominations, including Best Musical, Best Score for Bareilles, and nominations for headliner Jessie Mueller and co-star Christopher Fitzgerald.
