Television producer Frank Beacham brings to life his experience collaborating with Orson Welles in the new play, Maverick, co-authored with George Demas. Told through a series of flashbacks, including glimpses of Welles’ roles in films like Citizen Kane, the play traces the actor and director's final days before his death in 1985.

The world premiere of Maverick will play The Connelly Theater Off-Broadway February 6–March 2. David Elliott and Demas co-direct; opening night is February 13.

Maverick tells the story of then-video production company owner Beacham, who embarked on a creative journey with Welles and the revolutionary Betacam. With the first handheld camera and recorder combination, the two were meant to revolutionize the way art gets made—bypassing the gatekeepers and putting the responsibility of art back into the artists’ hands.

The cast is led by Stephen Pilkington and Demas as Beacham and Welles, respectively, with Alex Lin, Matt Mundy, Brian Parks, and Jed Peterson.

Maverick will feature scenic and prop design by Tekla Monson; lighting design by David Zeffren; costume design by Jess Gersz; and sound design by Tyler Kieffer. Casting is by Stephanie Klapper, CSA.
