London’s Other Palace is set to present three, concert-style workshop performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Starlight Express this fall. Prior to performances, the original creative team will reunite to explore the score, lyrics, and story with a group of new actors and musicians.

Development will continue during the September 14, 15, and 16 performances.

Featuring lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, Starlight Express transports audiences to a fantasy train world in which steam engine Rusty enters a cross-country race against flashy trains Greaseball and Electra in the hopes of impressing pretty sidecar Pearl.

Starlight Express originally opened in 1984 in the West End, where it ran for over 7000 performances. The show debuted on Broadway in 1987 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The musical continues to run in a purpose-built venue in Bochum, Germany where more than 15 million people have seen it in the 29 years it has been running.

Lloyd Webber launched The Other Palace with Artistic Director Paul Taylor-Mills earlier this year with the aim to foster new works and reimagine familiar titles. For more information on the London workshop performances of Starlight Express, visit TheOtherPalace.co.uk.
