Actor James Colby passed away February 23 at age 56. He is survived by his wife, fellow actor Alyssa Bresnahan, recently seen Off-Broadway in Napoli, Brooklyn, and their daughter. His death was confirmed to Playbill by his agent Don Birge, who added that the cause is unknown at this time.

Colby was recently seen on Broadway as Stan in Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning Sweat, the role he originated in the play’s critically acclaimed debut Off-Broadway. Previously, he was seen in the 1992 Broadway production of Hamlet.

The actor performed extensively Off-Broadway at The Public Theater, Roundabout Theatre Company, Manhattan Theatre Club, Playwrights Horizons, New York Theatre Workshop, Primary Stages, Westside Theatre, MCC, and Symphony Space.

He also appeared on numerous stages in regional theatres across the country, most notably Hartford Stage, where he was an associate artist.

His film and television credits include Blind Spot, Gotham, Limitless, Madoff, Patriots Day, Tower Heist, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Opponent, among many more.
