DESCRIPTION

The Laurie Beechman Theatre, a historic 90-seat cabaret, theater, and event space located in The West Bank Cafe in Hell’s Kitchen, is seeking a full-time Stage Manager/Technical Director to oversee all technical aspects of performances and the venue. This position is ideal for a skilled, proactive theater technician or stage manager with experience running lighting, sound, and projections, or a specialist in an area of technical theater/performance eager to expand their knowledge. The venue operates 7 days/week with shows and events daily and nightly.

Responsibilities:

  • Program and operate lighting and sound for performances
  • Create and run basic QLab projects for sound cues and projections when needed
  • Set up and manage microphones and audio equipment for a variety of performances, from stand-up comedy to full bands and vocal acts
  • Schedule and oversee technical rehearsals and ensure smooth show operations
  • Maintain the venue’s technical equipment, stage, and performance space, coordinating necessary repairs and upgrades
  • Schedule piano tunings and routine maintenance
  • Work alongside venue management on production scheduling, logistics, and staffing, including coordinating substitute stage managers/tech directors when needed
  • Serve as an on-site problem solver for all technical needs and production challenges
  • Work closely with performers and artists of all calibers with a friendly, respectful, can-do attitude.

Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge of technical theater (or expertise in one area with a willingness to learn others)
  • Experience with lighting design/programming, sound mixing, and/or stage management
  • Familiarity with QLab, audio mixing consoles, and basic projection setup
  • Ability to manage multiple productions and technical operations simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset
  • Experience in professional theater production management is preferred

This is a full-time, year-round position requiring residency in the area. Daily and weekly schedules will vary based on show schedules, but anticipate 5-6 days/week on average with several late nights. The Laurie Beechman Theatre has a rich history in NYC’s theater scene, and this role is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated theater professional looking to contribute to an iconic venue.
