BREAKDOWN
DON GIOVANNI
This 90-minute production of Don Giovanni is a staged concert that blends classical operatic, Broadway, and rock-style expressive singing with compelling storytelling. Featuring Mozart’s original vocal score in the original keys, sung in English with a brand new libretto, the production is fully mic’d and performed with an 11-piece rock orchestra. While staying true to Mozart’s compositions, it includes approximately two-thirds of the original arias, ensembles, and recitatives. The staged concert format highlights the drama and emotional depth of the story, focusing on the text and music to create an intimate yet powerful theatrical experience.
SEEKING:
DON GIOVANNI (Baritone, G2–G4, 30s-40s) Male Presenting. Everyone loves the bad boy. A dangerously charismatic nobleman who lives for pleasure and power. Seductive, reckless, and unapologetic. Thrives on manipulation and charm but faces the consequences of his own making. Has a commanding presence and a baritone voice suited to Sondheim-esque storytelling—rich, expressive, and dexterous rather than pop-inflected.
LEPORELLO (Bass-Baritone, Bb2–F4, 40s-70s) Male Presenting. Giovanni’s wry, street-smart servant who sees everything but often turns a blind eye. He wrestles with his complicity in Giovanni’s exploits. But this isn’t Giovanni’s story—it’s his. Leporello is the true high-energy lead, breaking the fourth wall to engage directly with the audience both during the performance and in a pre-show prologue. Has an effortless charm, razor-sharp wit, strong physical comedy instincts, and the ability to land a joke while carrying emotional weight. Has a classic Broadway baritone/tenor character voice, agile for fast-paced patter
DONNA ANNA (Lyric Soprano, B3–Bb5, opt D6, 20s-30s) Female Presenting. A woman on a mission. Fierce, determined, and unwilling to let tragedy define her. She is not a damsel in distress—she is a force of nature, demanding justice and refusing to be silenced. A powerful soprano with both dramatic fire and lyrical sensitivity
DON OTTAVIO (Tenor, C4–B5, 20s-30s) Male Presenting. Loyal to a fault. Deeply devoted to Anna but struggles to live up to her expectations. More heart than hero, he must decide whether love means protecting or proving himself. A lyrical tenor—either a classically trained operatic tenor or a rock tenor with a beautiful, clear upper register and expressive storytelling ability. More Steve Perry than Robert Plant.
DONNA ELVIRA (Lyric Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano, A3–Bb5, 30s-40s) Female Presenting. She refuses to be dismissed. A noblewoman who has loved and lost Giovanni but refuses to let him define her. Equal parts passion and fury, she is determined to hold him accountable. A classically trained lyric or mezzo-soprano with range and fire—capable of both raw emotion and biting wit.
THE COMMANDER (Bass, D2 opt. E2–E4, 50s-60s) Male Presenting. A father, a warrior, and an omen. Killed by Giovanni but never truly silenced. His presence looms large even in death. Requires a commanding bass voice with resonance and gravitas.
Male Swing #1 – Male Presenting. Covers Leporello, Don Ottavio
Male Swing #2 – Male Presenting. Covers Don Giovanni, The Commander
Female Swing #3– Female Presenting. Covers Donna Anna, Donna Elvira, the Counte
