Job Description

Studio Seaview is a commercial venue housing a 296-seat theatre and studio space located at 43rd Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Building Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility, overseeing all building systems, and acts as the main technical point of contact between the venue and its various clients.

This position requires primarily daytime hours during periods when the building is not in tech or performances (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm), and switching to second shift during tech and performances (Tuesday-Saturday 2pm-10pm). Additional evenings and weekends are required during periods of load-in/out and tech.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Serving as the primary contact in regards to all clients’ technical needs for the theater and studio space. Building Manager will review all physical production plans (set, lighting, sound and projection) to guarantee smooth load in and load out of client productions, and ensure all clients have access to the equipment and spaces as outlined in their rental agreement.

Representing the theatre’s interests by being physically present at all load-in, work calls, technical rehearsals, and load-out, for productions licensing space in the building.

Overseeing the proper storage and maintenance of any production equipment owned by the venue.

Maintaining building systems (IT, HVAC, fire/sprinkler alarms, etc.)

Managing regular service contracts and serving as on-site contact for maintenance appointments

Performing light maintenance tasks as needed (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, custodial)

Ensuring weekday building security, coordinating access with essential personnel

Collaborating with venue staff on special projects and rentals

Other tasks as assigned by Operations Manager or General Manager

Qualifications and Skills:

Candidates must be a self-starter with a strong understanding of facilities management, technical theatre, excellent attention to detail, and a knowledge of maintenance tasks for a commercial building in New York City. Experience with Google Drive is a plus. The ability to communicate and work well with others is a necessity, as this position will be client facing.

Upon hire, obtaining and maintaining NYFD F-03 and S-95 Certificates of Fitness is required.
