Asolo Rep is also seeking actors to fill understudy roles throughout the 2025-2026 season. All roles except bit parts are understudied.


PREPARATION

For Plays: Prepare two monologues, no more than two minutes total. For Musicals: Prepare either two brief contrasting cuts, or a brief cut of a song and a one-minute contemporary monologue. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a hard copy of your headshot and résumé stapled together.

SEEKING:

[EDDIE] Male-presenting. 20-45. Open race/ethnicity. An auto mechanic. His life peaked in the unruly years that he spent in high school. He wears a leather jacket, blue jeans, and boots in emulation of the anti-heroes of James Dean in “Rebel Without A Cause” and Marlon Brando in “The Wild One.” He married Brenda right out of high school, she is younger. Strong pop/rock voice.

[BRENDA] Female-presenting. 20-45. Open race/ethnicity. Once “Queen of the Prom.” She is bored with Eddie and bored with suburbia; she is looking for a new identity. MAJOR DANCE ROLE. Strong pop/rock voice.

[TONY] Male-presenting. Open race/ethnicity. Just graduated from high school. Super attractive extrovert, he sees the Vietnam War as an opportunity to become a hero in his community. He is the guy in the neighborhood most willing to serve – gung-ho to go. Eddie is his hero. Strong pop/rock voice.

[JAMES] Male-presenting. Not age specific. Eddie’s best friend. The most responsible guy around, grounded, he sets a good example for Tony. He has a generous sense of humor and is a natural leader. He met Judy in the second grade and has been by her side ever since. He knows they will be together forever. Strong pop/rock voice.

[JUDY] Female-presenting. Not age specific. A romantic idealist. Ideal wife material, she desires nothing more than to live out the American dream of having a comfortable home and a happy family life, married to James. Strong dancer, comfortable on pointe. Strong pop/rock voice.

[ENSEMBLE] All ages. All genders. All races. Twelve dancers portraying various characters, including teenage friends, cheerleaders, soldiers, bar patrons, Veterans and high school alumni. Strong pop/rock voices.

[KENNETH]: Male-presenting, Black. Kenneth is 38 years old and has lived in Cranberry, NY his whole life. He worked at Yellowed Pages bookstore for 15 years until its closure. He spends most of his free time at Wally’s Tiki Bar.

[BERT]: Male-presenting, Black, late 30s-40s. Kenneth’s best friend. He joins him at Wally’s and offers Kenneth advice and support however he can.

[CORRINA/WALLY’S WAITER/2 BANK CUSTOMERS]: Female-presenting, Black, 30s-40s. Corrina is a new waitress at Wally’s and a new presence in Kenneth’s small circle of friends.

[CLAY/SAM/LE POUSSELET BARTENDER]: Male-presenting, White, 50s-60s. Clay: works at Primary Trust and hires Kenneth after Yellowed Pages closes. Sam: the owner of Yellowed Pages and has been Kenneth’s employer for the last 15 years.

[THE MUSICIAN]: Provides atmospheric music in places like Wally’s, Le Pousselet, and Primary Trust. Any age, any gender, any race/ethnicity. NOTE: Instruments preferred but not required: guitar and piano.


THE MIRROR CRACK’D

[INSPECTOR CRADDOCK]: Male-presenting, any race/ethnicity, 40s. Chief Inspector at Scotland Yard, sent to St. Mary Mead to solve Badcock's murder.

[HEATHER LEIGH]: Female-presenting, any race/ethnicity, late 30s-40s. A lively and enthusiastic fan of Marina Gregg. Full of energy.

[CYRIL LEIGH]: Male-presenting, any race/ethnicity, late 30s-40s. Heather Leigh’s gentle and rather henpecked husband.

[MARINA GREGG]: Female-presenting, any race/ethnicity, late 40s-early 50s. A famous movie star, glamorous yet troubled. She has returned to England after a long career in Hollywood and is at a pivotal point in her life, dealing with personal and emotional struggles.

[GIUSEPPA RENZA]: Male-Presenting, 40s, any race/ethnicity. Marina Gregg’s butler at Gossington Hall, very protective of her. Italian accent.

[JASON RUDD]: Male-presenting, 50s, any race/ethnicity. Marina Gregg’s devoted husband and film director. He is protective of Marina and is trying to help her through her difficulties while maintaining their public image. American accent.

[ELLA ZIELINSKY]: Female-presenting, 30s-40s, any race/ethnicity. The efficient personal assistant to Jason Rudd, sharp and ambitious. Polish accent.

[TEVYE]: Male-presenting, 45-60. The likeable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures. Vocal Range: Ab2-F4.

[GOLDE]: Female-presenting, 40-50. Tevye's strong-willed wife who wishes for her daughters to have good husbands and live easier than she and Tevye. Vocal Range: A3-Eb5. MUSICIAN.

[HODEL]: Female-presenting, can believably play 18-23. Tevye's second eldest daughter, who becomes involved with Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join Perchik in Siberia. Vocal Range: B3-E5. MUSICIAN.

[TZEITEL]: Female-presenting, can believably play 18-25. Tevye's eldest daughter, who is madly in love with Motel. She is loyal to her family but typically challenges the town's traditions. Vocal Range: B3-D5. MUSICIAN.

[CHAVA]: Female-presenting, can believable play 15-20. Tevye's middle daughter who loves to read. Falls in love and runs off with Fydeka, a Russian soldier. Vocal Range: B3-D5. MUSICIAN.

[YENTE]: Female-presenting, 50-60. The meddling matchmaker. She is a widow and village busybody who knows all the town gossip. Vocal Range: F3-F5. MUSICIAN.

[MOTEL] This role is cast. Looking for future replacements and understudies: Male-presenting, can believably play 18-25. The poor and meek tailor who shares a deep love with Tzeitel. Sensitive and nervous, but sincere and friendly. Vocal Range: E3-F#4. MUSICIAN.

[PERCHIK]: Male-presenting, 20-30. The outspoken student and visitor to Anatevka, who constantly challenges the traditions of the town. He eventually falls in love with Hodel. This role is also a Featured Bottle Dancer. Vocal Range: B2-E4. MUSICIAN.

[LAZAR WOLF]: Male-presenting, 40-50. The feisty, brawny butcher and the town's wealthiest citizen who wishes to marry Tzeitel. Vocal Range: C3-F#4. MUSICIAN.

[MORDCHA]: Male-presenting, any age. The Innkeeper. Tenor or Baritone.

[RABBI]: Male-presenting. 50s-60s. NOTE: This role will also cover the following principal role: Tevye. MUSICIAN.

[AVRAM]: Male-presenting, 40-50. Runs the local bookshop and keeps the town advised of all the news in the area. This track doubles as a Bottle Dancer and will cover the following principal role: Lazar Wolf. Vocal Range: C3-F#4. MUSICIAN.

[NACHUM/CONSTABLE]: Male-presenting, 35-45. Nahum: The Begger. Constable: Russian military official stationed near Anatevka who knows the villagers well, however, he has superficial relationships with them. MUSICIAN.

[FYEDKA]: Male-presenting, 20s-40s. A strong, young Russian soldier who sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye's imposed silence. This track doubles as a bottle dancer. MUSICIAN.

[THE FIDDLER]: Any gender, any age. A mysterious, wandering musician who appears on stage at key moments, often playing his violin to represent the precariousness of life and the importance of tradition, essentially acting as a visual metaphor for the fragility of the Jewish community in the face of changing times. A proficient fiddle player.

[GRANDMA TZEITEL]: Female-presenting, 60-75. Golde's deceased grandmother, who endorses the marriage between Tzeitel and Motel. Vocal Range: C#4-D5. NOTE: This track will cover the following principal role: Hodel. MUSICIAN.
