Nina Segal's new work plays London's Rose Theatre.

Antonia Thomas, Christian Rubeck, and Avi Nash

The world premiere of Shooting Hedda Gabler begins performances at London's Rose Theatre September 29. The Nina Segal play, which is produced in association with The Norwegian Ibsen Company, is partially inspired by the original Henrik Ibsen play Hedda Gabler, widely considered to be a masterpiece of nineteenth century theatre.

Shooting Hedda Gabler will officially open at the Rose October 4 and continue through October 21.

Directed by Jeff James, the new play features Antonia Thomas as Hedda with Christian Rubeck as Henrik, Avi Nash as Ejlert, Anna Andresen as Berta, Matilda Bailes as Thea, and Joshua James as Jørgen. The production was cast by Sam Jones.

Shooting Hedda Gabler centers on an American film actress who seizes the opportunity to gain artistic credibility outside of Hollywood by starring in a Norwegian film adaptation of Hedda Gabler. When the film's demanding director Henrik becomes fixated on ending the film with a bang, the actress struggles to keep her balance.

In addition to James, creative team members include set designer Rosanna Vize, costume designer Milla Clarke, lighting designer Hansjörg Schmidt, composer and sound designer Kieran Lucas, intimacy and movement director Ingrid Mackinnon, and assistant director Amy Crighton.
