Casting has been announced for Macbeth in Stride at Shakespeare Theatre Company. The Macbeth adaption with music, produced in association with Philadelphia Theatre Company and Brooklyn Academy of Music, will run at the D.C. venue October 10–29.
The work uses pop, rock, gospel, and R&B music to examine what it's like to be an ambitious Black woman through the lens of one of Shakespeare's most well-known characters, and is created by Shakespeare Theatre Company's associate director Whitney White. White will also star in the production as Woman.
White is joined by Charlie Thurston as Man, Stacey Sargeant (for colored girls...) as First Witch, Ximone Rose (Once On This Island) as Second Witch, and Chelsea Lee Williams (Death of a Salesman) as Third Witch. Understudy Kanysha Williams rounds out the company.
Macbeth in Stride will be directed by Philadelphia Theatre Company co-Artistic Directors Tyler Dobrowsky and Taibi Magar. Raja Feather Kelly provides choreography, and Steven Cuevas serves as co-orchestrator alongside White, as well as music director. The production will feature scenic design by Daniel Soule, costume design by Qween Jean, lighting design by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound design by Nick Kourtides, casting by STC's resident casting director Danica Rodriguez, and wig, hair, and makeup design by Rachel Padula-Shufelt. Charles M. Turner III serves as production stage manager alongside assistant stage manager Samantha Wilhelm.
