The musicals performing numbers at the upcoming 77th Annual Tony Awards have been revealed. The ceremony is set to be held June 16 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center and will be broadcast live nationwide.
A 90-minute pre-show, The Tony Awards: Act One, will stream for free on Pluto TV beginning at 6:30 PM ET, with The 77th Annual Tony Awards following at 8 PM ET on CBS, and streaming on Paramount+ for premium-level subscribers. Julianne Hough and Utkarsh Ambudkar are hosting Act One, while Oscar winner Ariana DeBose will be back to host The 77th Annual Tony Awards for the third consecutive year.
And now we know the broadcast will feature performances from all of this year's Best Musical and Best Revival of a Musical nominees, including Cabaret, Hell's Kitchen, Illinoise, Merrily We Roll Along, Suffs, The Outsiders, The Who's Tommy, and Water For Elephants.
The numbers each show will perform have not been announced, and are typically kept under wraps until the broadcast.
More performances could certainly be announced in the coming days, but as of now that list is notably absent any currently running musicals that were left out of the production categories, including The Notebook, The Wiz, and The Heart of Rock and Roll. Getting a Best Musical or Best Revival of a Musical nominee is usually the pathway to performing at the Tony Awards, but in recent years, several shows have performed without being nominated, including A Beautiful Noise in 2023 and The Cher Show in 2019.
Also absent from the telecast is Stereophonic, which (although it's a play) is up for Best Score at the Tony Awards and its cast has sung on The Tonight Show. Playwright David Adjmi wrote on social media: "We wanted to perform but they weren’t into it. We tried!"
Nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards were revealed April 30, with Hell's Kitchen and Stereophonic taking the mantle as the most Tony-nominated productions of the seasons with 13 nods each. See the full list of nominations here.
