Described as a "love letter" to theatre, the upcoming comedy Tankhouse will premiere in theaters and VOD May 13. The movie stars stage actors Christopher Lloyd and Richard Kind and follows a thespian couple as they are kicked out of the avant-garde acting scene in New York and return to Fargo, North Dakota with the hopes of starting a new theatre company. Emmy winner Lloyd made his Broadway debut in Red, White and Maddox, and went on to star in productions of Happy End and Morning's at 7. His Off-Broadway credits include starring as Banquo in Macbeth and Malvolio in Twelfth Night. On screen, he is known for his portrayal of Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future movie franchise, also reprising the role in spin-off television series and video games; and Jim Ignatowski in the comedy series Taxi
Kind has starred in Bounce, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, The Producers, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and The Big Knife. The latter earned Kind a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Marcus Hoff. He played guest roles in the television shows Scrubs, Two and a Half Men, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
The movie also stars Tara Holt (Californication), Stephen Friedrich (This is Us), Alex Esola (After The Wedding), Austin Crute (Booksmart), Carolyn Michelle Smith (Russian Doll), Devere Rogers (My Spy), Joe Adler (The Maze Runner), Luke Spencer Roberts (The Package), Nadia Alexander (Blame), Rachel Matthews (Frozen 2), Sarah Yarkin (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy), and Andy Buckley (Jurassic World).
"This film is a love letter to the years we spent trying to make it in the theatre, with a lot of scenes pulled almost verbatim from our own experiences, and it was an absolute privilege to realize it with such an incredibly talented and dedicated team of artists, all of whom brought their A-game all the way to Fargo," says director Noam Tomaschoff.
"It explores the euphoria and growth that young artists feel as they discover their voices and juxtaposes that with the deep and often intensely personal sacrifice that a life in the arts requires of anyone who seeks it. I may be biased, but I think I would have loved this movie if I had seen it back when I was a theatre nerd in school, and I hope that the next generation of thespians, as well as anyone who likes a good laugh and a tug at the heartstrings, will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it."
Tankhouse is Tomaschoff's directorial debut, co-written by Tomaschoff and Chelsea Frei. It is produced by Matthew Cooper; Bill Marcin Jr. and Jim Manney for Click Content Studios; Tomaschoff; and Frei.
