Video Watch Mean Girls' Erika Henningsen in an Exclusive Performance From Joy the Musical

Directed by Casey Hushion, performances will begin at New Jersey's George Street Playhouse in December.

Mean Girls star Erika Henningsen will head the cast of the world premiere of Joy the Musical, which will play New Jersey's George Street Playhouse December 7–30.

Ahead of its premiere, Henningsen stopped by the Playbill Studio, along with musical supervisor Andy Einhorn, to share the song “Change Forever” in the video above.

Directed by Casey Hushion (Aladdin, The Prom) with choreography by Emmy winner and Tony nominee Joshua Bergasse, the new musical features a score by Tony nominee AnnMarie Milazzo, musical supervision by Andy Einhorn, and a book by Tony winner Ken Davenport. The latter obtained the rights to the life story of best-selling author, inventor, and self-made millionaire Joy Mangano.

Vicki Lewis (Anastasia, Damn Yankees), Stephen DeRosa (Boardwalk Empire), and Trent Saunders (Hadestown, Aladdin) will join Henningsen. Rounding out the cast are Sami Bray, Badia Farha, Pomme Koch, Gaelen Gilliand, Hazel Anne Raymundo, Olivia Jones, John Hickok, Ashley Marie Arnold, Brian Shepard, Dana Costello, Kristen Faith Oei, Alanna Saunders, Ryan Duncan, Anthony Wayne, Justin Gregory Lopez, Bronwyn Tarboton, and Michal Kolaczkowski.

The musical focuses on Joy, the girl who becomes the woman who founded a business dynasty. Facing betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence, and the scars of love, Joy becomes a boss of family and enterprise.

Says Henningsen, “I hope it inspires people to take that next step. Because she's absolute proof that all you have to do is keep putting one foot in front of the other to watch your idea come into the world. As long as you keep showing up and believing in what you have to offer, big or small, you will see it come into the world at some point. And so I hope people walk away with that faith in themselves the way that Joy has.”

The world premiere is presented in association with Sandi Moran and Ken Davenport.
