The Tony winner is starring as The Witch in Into the Woods on Broadway.

2022 Best Leading Actress Tony Award winner Joaquina Kalukango (Paradise Square) returned to Broadway December 16 in the revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods, succeeding Tony winner Patina Miller and Montego Glover, who have been sharing the role of The Witch. Watch Kalukango's take on "Last Midnight" in new footage from the production above.

Before Paradise Square, Kalukango appeared on Broadway in Godspell, Holler If Ya Hear Me, and The Color Purple. She earned her first Tony nomination in 2020 for her performance in the Broadway bow of Jeremy O. Harris' Slave Play.

The Broadway company of Into the Woods currently includes Stephanie J. Block as the Baker’s Wife, Brian d’Arcy James as the Baker, Diane Phelan as Cinderella, Gavin Creel as the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince, Joshua Henry as Rapunzel’s Prince, Katy Geraghty as Little Red Ridinghood, Jim Stanek as the Steward, Ann Harada as Jack’s Mother, Cole Thompson as Jack, and Alysia Velez as Rapunzel. Sebastian Arcelus will re-join the production as The Baker beginning January 3.

The production also features Ta’Nika Gibson, Annie Golden, Albert Guerzon, Brooke Ishibashi, Kennedy Kanagawa, David Patrick Kelly, Nancy Opel, Delphi Borich, Felicia Curry, Jason Forbach, Alex Joseph Grayson, Cameron Johnson, Paul Kreppel, Mary Kate Moore, and Lucia Spina.

Into the Woods is directed by Lear deBessonet with music direction by Rob Berman and choreography by Lorin Latarro.

With a book by Lapine and a score by Sondheim, Into the Woods combines the fairy-tale stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and more, ultimately going beyond "ever after" to explore what happens next.

The Into the Woods creative team includes scenic designer David Rockwell; costume designer Andrea Hood; lighting designer Tyler Micoleau; sound designer Scott Lehrer, co-designing with Alex Neumann; puppet designer James Ortiz; and hair and makeup designer Cookie Jordan. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Craig Burns, and Cody Renard Richard serves as production supervisor. Justin Scribner is production stage manager, and music coordination is by Seymour Red Press and Kimberlee Wertz.

Following a two-week run at New York City Center in May, the revival transferred to Broadway's St. James Theatre, where it opened July 10, after beginning previews June 28.

After the January 8 conclusion of the Broadway run, Into the Woods will play several limited engagements across the U.S., with many current and original Broadway cast members continuing with the production.
