Rory O'Malley, who plays King George III in the Broadway musical Hamilton, handed over his crown in a Jan. 14 ceremony to Taran Killam, who is scheduled to take over the role on Jan. 17.
The ceremony, performed on the stage of the Richard Rodgers Theatre where Hamilton is playing, continued the tradition started by Brian d'Arcy James, who originated the role Off-Broadway. James took part in the ceremony, which included the reading of "Ten Things You Need to Know" (which actually numbered only four) e.g. "Stay Our of Everyone's Way Backstage."

Killam, the former Saturday Night Live cast member who was seen as the Dentist in the 2015 City Center Encores! production of Little Shop of Horrors, replaces Rory O'Malley in the role of King George. O'Malley concluded his run January 15 and will star in the musical's forthcoming national tour.
This is not Killam‘s first involvement in Hamilton. On January 2, 2016, he appeared on the steps of the Richard Rodgers Theatre as that week‘s guest for #Ham4Ham. Watch it here:
Among other upcoming cast changes, Anthony Lee Medina will make his Broadway debut as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in March (on a date to be announced); he succeeds Jordan Fisher, who will play his final performance March 5. Medina was seen as Otto in the first national tour of Spring Awakening, Usnavi in In the Heights at Theater Under the Stars, and Young Sal in The Public Theater’s The Capeman.
Javier Muñoz currently stars as Alexander Hamilton on Broadway in a company that also features Brandon Victor Dixon as Aaron Burr.
With book, music, and lyrics by Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, music direction/orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. The musical won 11 2016 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Score, Book of a Musical, Direction of a Musical, Choreography, and Orchestrations.
