Ariana DeBose—that is, Golden Globe winner Ariana DeBose—made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut January 15, and although her most recent successes are for the new film adaptation of West Side Story, the Tony nominee made sure to point out that she was there representing the Broadway community.
Watch the video above as DeBose sings a medley from West Side Story for her opening monologue, joined by SNL cast member Kate McKinnon, who claims to have also been on Broadway...the sidewalk.
Another sketch highlight for musical theatre fans features McKinnon as Maria Von Trapp, introducing a "New Governess" to the family next door. Check out DeBose in the video below, a parody of "Do Re Mi," as she teaches the children to sing with syllables that stand for "a thing that Homer Simpson says," "a movie with Jamie Foxx," and "like Me, Myself, & Irene."
DeBose made her Broadway debut in Bring It On. She was in the original cast of Hamilton, and garnered a Tony nomination for her role as Disco Donna in Summer.
