There's a new EGOT-er in town! At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Viola Davis won the Grammy award for Best Audiobook, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for the audiobook of her memoir Finding Me. Marking her first Grammy win after already scoring an Emmy Award, an Academy Award (Oscar), and two Tony Awards, Davis has now become the 18th person overall and third Black woman in history to achieve EGOT status.

Previously, Davis won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Play in 2010 for her performance as Rose in Fences. In 2001, she took home the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in King Hedley II

In her acceptance speech at the Grammys, Davis remarked, "I wrote this book to honor the six-year-old Viola...to honor her life, her joy, her trauma." She then proudly declared to the crowd: "I just EGOT!"

Davis is joining a line-up of history-making EGOT artists including Andrew Lloyd Webber, Alan Menken, Helen Hayes, Richard Rogers, and Rita Moreno—to name just a few. Davis is the first actor since Audrey Hepburn to achieve EGOT status from only performance awards.
