News Victims of Female Violence Will Be Heard in Off-Broadway Premiere of Award-Winning Docudrama The international sensation and Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit Nirbhaya will make its U.S. premiere Off-Broadway beginning April 16. The award-winning docudrama is based on the Delhi bus gang rape in 2012 and features performers' testimonials of female violence.

Presented by Culture Project, Nirbhaya is written and directed by Yaël Faber (Mies Julie), in collaboration with the cast and creative team from India. Performances will be at the Lynn Redgrave Theatre, with an opening night set for April 26. Nirbhaya had its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2013, where it won the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award and the Scotsman Fringe First and the Herald Angel Award for Outstanding New Play.

The play recalls the 2012 violent  incident in India that made headlines around the world. According to press notes, "Nirbhaya's company of actors present the shocking events surrounding Jyoti Singh Pandey’s story as well as giving their own moving testimonials, cracking open the cone of silence around women whose lives have been shattered by gender-based violence."
