An invitation-only tribute honoring four-time Tony-winning producer Ron Simons, who passed away last year at the age of 63, will be held February 27 at Joe's Pub.

Produced and directed by Zain Sheikh, associate produced by Janel C. Scarborough and Kelly Armendariz, and presented in association with Theater Resources Unlimited, the evening will be hosted by Tony winner Joe Morton.

The tribute will feature performances from artists who brought Simons’ productions to life. Cast members from Thoughts of a Colored Man, including Dyllon Burnside, Bryan Terrell Clark, Esau Pritchett, and Tristan “Mack” Wilds, will reunite for the tribute. The evening will also feature Nona Hendryx, D. Woods, Lyrics from Lockdown, Sugar Hill, Yvonne Russo, and Tonya Pinkins.

While the Joe’s Pub tribute is a private event, Simons’ impact will be publicly recognized February 28 at 6:45 PM when the Music Box Theatre will dim its marquee lights in his honor.

Simons' Broadway productions included Jitney, Ain’t Too Proud, Thoughts of a Colored Man, for colored girls…, Porgy and Bess, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. His work in film and TV was equally groundbreaking, producing award-winning independent films showcased at Sundance, MoMA, and international festivals.
