Barry Humphries as Dame Edna

Toronto's Mirvish theatres—which includes the CAA Ed Mirvish, the Royal Alexandra, and the Princess of Wales—will dim their lights in honor of the life of Barry Humphries, better known as his alter ego Dame Edna, who passed away April 22 at the age of 89. The ceremony is planned for May 4 at 8 PM ET.

Humphries' most famous character was the purple-haired, sequin-loving Dame Edna, an outlandish character that would make Humphries beloved around the world and win him a Special Tony Award. Dame Edna played Mirvish theatres in Dame Edna: The Royal TourDame Edna: Back With a Vengeance, and Dame Edna's Glorious Goodbye - The Farewell Tour.

"There will never be another Dame Edna, just as there will there never be another Barry Humphries," reads a statement from Mirvish Theatres. "Toronto was privileged to have had both her and him play extended runs on our stages. Thank you, Dame Edna and Barry."
