Tony nominee Joshua Boone departs the company of the reigning Best Musical The Outsiders January 26 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Boone, who was Tony-nominated for his work as Dallas Winston in the hit musical, released the following statement January 24, when news of his sudden departure was released.

“I'm truly grateful to have been part of The Outsiders' journey. It has had a profound impact on my life and I'm excited to use all of the lessons and blessings I've gained from it going forward. Thank you to [director] Danya [Taymor] and the whole team for seeing something in me they felt could be of use to the story, the cast for accepting my personhood, the crew and ushers for their continued encouragement and support, and above all else, I hope that the audiences felt, and keep feeling, and keep feeling, and keep feeling, until we meet again, no matter the medium. While I'm leaving to be of service to a story on screen, the stage has my heart, and I'll most definitely be back to collect it. Until then.” Information on the screen project Boone alludes to is not yet available.

New casting for the role of Dallas will be announced soon, with Aramie Payton and Daryl Tofa performing the role in the interim.

Currently running at the Jacobs Theatre, where the musical opened April 11, 2024, The Outsiders is adapted from S.E. Hinton's novel and Francis Ford Coppola's film adaptation. Set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, the musical follows Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their chosen family of "outsiders," who are in a fight for survival and a quest for purpose in a world that may never accept them. The musical features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival and Levine.

The Outsiders won the Best Musical Tony Award as well as Best Direction of a Musical (Danya Taymor), Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt and Hana S. Kim), and Sound Design (Cody Spencer) at the 2024 Tony Awards.

Kim; Tony-winning sound design by Cody Spencer; and music direction by Matt Hinkley. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting's Xavier Rubiano. Milena J.
