The play was seen at the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville four years ago. Loretta Greco directs the tale of a heartsick astronomer dealing with memories of his murdered wife. Previews began Sept. 30.

Scott, who plays the leading role of Kyle, starred in the Tom Hanks film "That Thing You Do." His other film credits include "An American Werewolf in Paris" and "The Love Letter." He was also a regular on TV's "Grace Under Fire" and has the recurring role of Eric Wyczenski on "ER."

The cast also includes Michele Ammon, Matthew Del Negro and Yetta Gottesman. According to a release, Touch "tells the story of a young astronomer and his vivacious soulmate who have the perfect life together until a random act of violence tears them apart."

The play's creative team comprises Michael Brown (set design), James Vermeulen (lighting design), Jeff Mahshie (costume design) and Robert Kaplowitz (sound design and original music).

Touch will play Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets, priced at $45, are available by calling (212) 239-6200. The Women's Project Theatre is located in Manhattan at 424 West 55th Street. *

Founded in 1978 by Julia Miles, The Women's Project and Productions is the nation's preeminent non-profit theatre dedicated to producing and developing new plays by women.

There are changes afoot for the 25-year-old company. WPP member director Marya Cohn will serve as acting artistic director for 2003-04, working with Julia Miles, founder and artistic director emeritus. A search is under way for a new artistic director for the Off-Broadway company that stages three main events every season in its 199-seat theatre.

The company's 2003-04 season also includes:

  • Birdy, adapted by Naomi Wallace from the William Wharton novel, playing in December 2003. "Birdy and Al have been best friends since childhood," according to the announcement. "Cut adrift by the horrors of World War II, can Al help Birdy get his feet back on the ground? A hypnotic tale of madness, beauty, and friendship." The New York premiere is directed by Lisa Peterson.
  • Under the Mango Tree by Carmen Rivera and The Old Matador by Milcha Sanchez Scott, two works in repertory co-produced with INTAR Hispanic American Arts Center, in March 2004 at the INTAR Hispanic American Arts Center, 508 W. 53rd Street between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues. "Steeped in the Latino experience, these magical stories of lost love and dreams deferred are sure to delight the entire family," according to WPP. This will be the New York premiere of The Old Matador and the world premiere of Under the Mango Tree. For more information, visit www.womensproject.org.
