Playbill Universe The Verdict: Read Reviews of Airline Highway on Broadway Lisa D’Amour's Airline Highway, a story set on the colorful fringes of New Orleans' skid row, opened on Broadway April 23 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre following performances that began April 1.

The production previously played Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre.

"In the parking lot of The Hummingbird, a once-glamorous motel on New Orleans’s infamous Airline Highway, a group of friends gather," press notes state. "A rag-tag collection of strippers, hustlers and philosophers have come together to celebrate the iconic burlesque performer Miss Ruby. The party rages through the night as old friends resurface to pay their respects."

Tony nominee K. Todd Freeman and other members of the Chicago company are again featured in the play. The cast includes Tony Award winner Julie White (The Little Dog Laughed, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike), Carolyn Braver, Scott Jaeck, Ken Marks, Caroline Neff, Tim Edward Rhoze, Judith Roberts, Joe Tippett, Shannon Eagen, Venida Evans, Joe Forbrich, Leslie Hendrix, Sekou Laidlow, Todd d'Amour and Toni Martin.

Playwright Lisa D'Amour tells Playbill.com about her inspiration for Airline Highway.

The Steppenwolf Theatre production is presented on Broadway by the Manhattan Theatre Club at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, with direction by Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Assassins).

The creative team includes Scott Pask (scenic design), David Zinn (costume design), Japhy Weideman (lighting design), and Fitz Patton (original music and sound design).
