As if March streaming wasn't exciting enough for musical theatre fans with the release of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez's musical television series Up Here, the month of April is doubling down with two musical series. Apple TV+ is giving us the second season of Schmigadoon! (aka Schmicago) and Paramount+ is hitting us with a Grease prequel in Rise of the Pink Ladies.

Midge Maisel will say goodbye to millions of adoring fans in the fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel this spring. Rachel Brosnahan stars in the title role as a New York housewife in the late 1950s whose divorce leads to her to discover a talent for making people laugh. Season five will see Midge get closer than ever to her dreams of success as a stand-up comedian in the comedy from Amy Sherman-Palladino. The cast also includes Michael Zegen, Alex Borstein, Tony Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle, Caroline Aaron, Kevin Pollak, Luke Kirby, and Stephanie Hsu. Begin streaming it April 14.

Last season, Josh and Melissa (played by Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong) found that their romantic relationship had lost its magic. On a couple’s retreat in the woods, they stumbled into the enchanted village of Schmigadoon! where they were trapped inside a Golden Age musical until they found true love. The couple is back for a second season of the musical comedy series. Having once again grown complacent in their relationship, Josh and Melissa set out into the woods seeking the magic of Schmigadoon, but instead find themselves trapped in Schmicago!—the grittier, darker world of the mid-'60s to '70s musicals that followed the Golden Age. Most of the main players from first season return, this time parodying new characters from the works of Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, Kander & Ebb, and more. See Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth looking a little vengeful and hard-knocked, Jane Krakowski razzle-dazzling, and Ann Harada, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camill, and Ariana DeBose hanging out at the Kratt Klubb. Oh, and Aaron Tveit has grown out his Hair. Patrick Page lends his villainous bass this season, and Tituss Burgess fossies his way into the cast to narrate. The premier streaming service for live theatre will present the 2013 Lincoln Center staged concert version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel, accompanied the New York Philharmonic. Directed by John Rando and conducted by Rob Fisher, the production stars Tony winner Kelli O'Hara as Julie Jordan and baritone Nathan Gunn as Billy Bigelow. Also starring are Stephanie Blythe; Tony winners Shuler Hensley, Jessie Mueller, and John Cullum; Jason Danieley; Kate Burton; Robert Fairchild; and Tiler Peck. The production also features choreography by Tony winner Warren Carlyle. Stream it April 1.

Peter Pan & Wendy is Disney's new live-action adaptation of J. M. Barrie's classic tale of the boy-who-wouldn't-grow-up and the Darling girl he finds one night in London. Jude Law is the villainous Captain Hook and Yara Shahidi is the fairy Tinkerbell. Newcomers Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson star as Peter Pan and Wendy, respectively. Some updates to the story include the inclusion of girls in Pan's group of Lost Boys in Neverland and revisions around Indigenous stereotypes in the Tiger Lily storyline. Canadian First Nations actor Alyssa Wapanatâhk has been cast as Tiger Lily. Stream the new movie April 28.

Glee alum Dianna Agron stars in the new psychological thriller film Clock, about a woman who, under family and societal pressure to have children, enrolls herself in a clinical trial to fix her biological clock. Written and directed by Alexis Jacknow, Clock premieres April 28.

The period drama Transatlantic tells the true story of Varian Fry, an American journalist who, with Mary Jayne Gold and the Emergency Rescue Committee, helped save over 2,000 people from the Nazis in WWII occupied France. Cory Michael Smith, who got his start in New York theatre (The Whale and The Shaggs at Playwrights Horizons, Breakfast at Tiffany's on Broadway) stars as Fry, with Community's Gillian Jacobs as Gold. The cast also includes Lucas Englander, Corey Stoll, Grégory Montel, Ralph Amoussou, Deleila Piasko, and Amit Rahhav. Based on The Flight Portfolio by Julie Orringer, the seven-episode series streams April 7.
Rachel Leigh Cook stars as a travel exec who, after an unexpected breakup, throws away her guidebook for a new romantic adventure in Vietnam in A Tourist's Guide to Love. Scott Ly and Ben Feldman make up the other two points in her love triangle, with Broadway alum Missi Pyle as the bff encouraging exploration. Keep an eye out for rising stars Andrew Barth Feldman (Dear Evan Hansen) and Morgan Dudley (Jagged Little Pill), too. Steam it April 21.
One of Broadway's favorite comedians will release his third stand-up special with Netflix this month. John Mulaney: Baby J was shot in Boston’s Symphony Hall in February 2023. The special features direction by Tony winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!) and music by David Byrne. Baby J is set to air globally on the streamer April 25.

Broadway’s favorite pink jackets are back on the shoulders of the original girl gang in Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. Set four years prior to the courtship of Sandy and Danny, the musical prequel series centers on the four outcasts who pledge "to act cool, to look cool, and to be cool,” ‘til death do them part. Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel, Ari Notartomaso, and Tricia Fukuhara star as the Pink Ladies, with Broadway’s own Jackie Hoffman as Rydell High’s Asst. Principal McGee. Grammy-nominated musician Justin Tranter has written over 30 new songs for the 10-episode series. Start streaming it April 6.
