The National Endowment for the Arts—despite facing elimination under the Trump administration’s 2018 budget proposal—received welcoming news today.
A bipartisan bill made by Congress May 1 has determined that the federal agency, along with the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, will receive full funding through the remainder of the 2017 fiscal year (ending September 30). In fact, the NEA and NEH have both received increases of $2 million compared to last year (a total of $150 million each).
The official legislation is expected to pass in a vote this Friday. The passing of the agreement would remove the threat of a government shutdown for the time being. While this bill ensures funding for the three programs through September, they are still on the chopping block for the new fiscal year, beginning October 1.
