As Disney’s new The Lion King heads into theatres, ABC’s Robin Roberts hosts a special devoted to the 25-year-old property July 16: The Lion King: Can You Feel The Love Tonight with Robin Roberts.
Co-Produced by Rock’n Robin Productions and Lincoln Square Productions, the hour-long TV special features a behind-the-scenes visit to the studios of the new movie, the debut of an unreleased scene, as well as interviews with director Jon Favreau, cast members Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Alfre Woodard, Chiwetel Ejiofor, original voice actors Whoopi Goldberg, Matthew Broderick and Jeremy Irons, composer Elton John, and Broadway’s Heather Headley.
In the clip above, Headley, who originated the role of Nala in the Broadway adaptation, recalls the performance in which she nearly broke her ankle and had to stop the show. “I was doing the chase with Jason [Raize, who played Simba] and jumped over him and came down on my ankle. I thought it was broken,” she says. “I remember going, ‘It's not Nala, it's Heather. Bring the curtain in.’”
