April 12: Following an extension and critical acclaim, Roundabout Theatre's imaginative, paired-down staging of Sondheim's Into the Woods will have its final curtain call. With only ten actors and one piano, the Off-Broadway production has been winning the hearts of Sondheim fans since late last year.

 

OPENING

April 9: Hilary Mantel's best-selling novels about Henry VIII are brought to the stage in two parts, Wolf Hall and its sequel, Bring Up the Bodies. The Royal Shakespeare Company productions played an extended repertory run in London, and original stars Ben Miles, Lydia Leonard and Nathaniel Parker have returned for the Broadway engagement. Theatregoers wishing to see both shows can purchase a ticket bundle at a discounted rate.

April 12: A Hollywood classic and the film that made Leslie Caron's career, An American in Paris opens on Broadway  following a trial run in Paris. Hoping to start a new life, World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan chooses newly-liberated Paris as the place to make a name for himself as a painter. But Jerry's life becomes complicated when he meets Lise, a young Parisian shop girl with her own secret - and realizes he is not her only suitor.

April 14: The new musical It Shoulda Been You is a heartwarming and hilarious portrait of two families from wildly different backgrounds forced to celebrate together for the sake of a wedding. To complicate things further, an ex-lover unexpectedly arrives on the scene. The show stars a host of Broadway talent including Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris, Sierra Boggess and David Burtka.

April 15: The acclaimed film "Finding Neverland," starring Johnny Depp, receives a magical re-imagining for the Broadway stage by Tony-winning director Diane Paulus. With dazzling, contemporary music by Gary Barlow from U.K. pop ensemble Take That, Finding Neverland tells the story of how playwright J.M. Barrie came to create "Peter Pan." Starring Matthew Morrison, Kelsey Grammer and Laura Michelle Kelly, the new musical features choreography from "Dancing with the Stars" extraordinaire Mia Michaels.

April 16: A Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, The King and I returns to Broadway with this dazzling production. In 1860s Siam, Anna, a British schoolteacher, is hired as part of King Mongkut's drive to modernize his country. Bartlett Sher directs Kelli O'Hara, Ken Watanabe and a cast of over 50 in the new lavish staging.

April 19: The Pulitzer-nominated Jeanine TesoriLisa Kron musical Fun Home, based on Allison Bechdel's graphic memoir, officially opens on Broadway following an acclaimed, popular Off-Broadway premiere. Sam Gold, who helmed the original production, directs much of the same cast, including Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Tony nominee Judy Kuhn.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

April 9: An all-star lineup that includes Tony winner Patti LuPone, Emmy nominee Billy Eichner and the multi-award-winning composer March Shaiman will roast cabaret songstress and TV star Bridget Everett at Stage 48 in Bridget Everett Gets F*cked by Ars Nova. The benefit concert will also feature a host of other talents.

April 12: Rent star Anthony Rapp headlines Paying the RENT! , a  rock concert benefit at Joe's Pub. The evening will also feature Dee Roscioli and Daniel Quadrino from Wicked, as well as more Broadway stars and the cast of Uncompromising Artistry Productions' revival of Rent which is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer.

April 12: Don't miss this year's Olivier Awards, scheduled to be broadcast on ITV. This year's event is held at London's Royal Opera House and hosted by Lenny Henry. The line-up of guest presenters includes heavy-weights Angela Lansbury and Judi Dench, among many others.

April 13: Tituss Burgess, Bebe Neuwirth, Edie Falco and Cristin Milioti are among the stars who will participate and perform in the seventh edition of 24 Hour Musicals at the Gramercy Theater. A team of more than 100 will cast, write, compose, rehearse, tech and perform four original musicals created in just 24 hours.  

April 18: The latest in immersive theatre experiences to hit New York is Speakeasy Dollhouse: Ziegfeld's Midnight Frolic. The Liberty Theatre off Times Square will be transformed into the site-specific show, which re-imagines Florenz Ziegfeld's lavish 1910-20's revues, complete with showgirls, burlesque and aerialists.

April 19: 54 Below will host a reunion concert featuring cast members from the original Broadway run of The Wedding Singer. Constantine Maroulis, Amy Spanger and Felicia Finley are among the stars who will perform hits from the 1980's-set Tony-nominated musical.

April 19: A new print of iconic film, "The Sound of Music," starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, will return to select cinemas nationally in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The special edition features a new introduction.
