Indie rock band The Kilbanes' new musical Weightless made its Off-Broadway premiere at WP Theater September 17, featuring storytelling band members and husband-and-wife duo Kate Kilbane and Dan Moses. Opening night is set for September 29, and the run will continue through October 16.
Directed by Tamilla Woodward and inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the musical follows two sisters, Procne and Philomela, who travel across worlds to reunite after being separated. The show is based on the band’s theatrical concept album of the same name, which was adapted into a movie, and, in 2021, streamed by WP Theater.
The actor-musician cast includes both band members, Kilbane as Procne and on bass and Moses as chorus and on keyboards, as well as Lila Blue as Philomela, Kofy Brown as Iris and on percussion, Dan Harris on percussion, and Joshua Pollock as Tereus and on guitar. The entire cast is reprising their roles from the filmed production.
The creative team comprises set design by Peiyi Wong, costume design by Dina El-Aziz, lighting design by Stacey Derosier, sound design by Joanna Lynne Staub, choreography by nicHi Douglas, and projection design by Johnny Moreno.
