The Public Theater has set dates for its previously announced encore run of Suzan-Lori ParksPlays for the Plague Year, which will run April 5–30 at Joe's Pub and officially open April 18.

Parks will reprise her performance as The Writer, and director Niegel Smith is also back to helm. The work, the culmination of Parks' project writing a play a day throughout the COVID shutdown, made its world premiere at Joe's Pub last year.

Also returning are company members Edward Astor Chin, Leland Fowler, Danyel Fulton, Greg Keller, Orville Mendoza, Lauren Molina, and Martín Solâ. Newly joining the cast for the 2023 run will be Rona Figueroa, Joe Osheroff, Danea Osseni, and Nathan M. Ramsey.

The encore is being given partially because of the amount of performances that were canceled during the 2022 run, following several cases of COVID-19 within the company.

The production features scenic and projection design by Peter Nigrini, costume design by Rodrigo Muñoz, lighting design by Ania Washington, and sound design by Dan Moses Schreier. Buzz Cohen is production stage manager.

Parks is a Pulitzer winner for her 2001 play Topdog/Underdog, now back on Broadway in a 20th anniversary revival directed by Kenny Leon. Her other works include Betting on the Dust Commander, Father Comes Home From the Wars, Parts 1, 2 & 3, Sally & Tom, and The Harder They Come.
