Nearly four years old Off-Broadway, Stomp has helped re-define the theatre/dance show, influencing everything from Tap Dogs to Riverdance. The show continues in an open run at Off-Broadway's Orpheum Theatre and has spawned two U.S. touring companies and two European tours.
Still, those who haven't Stomped in the theatre can now enjoy the percussive, clever dancing at home when HBO presents "Stomp Out Loud," a special performance featuring cast-members of various Stomp troupes past and present. The show premiered on the cable network Dec. 6, 8 PM (ET). Future playdates include Dec. 11 (10 AM), 14 (10:30 AM), 19 (11:15 AM), 23 (7 PM), 25 (5 PM) and 31 (8 AM).
Directed by the show's theatre directors, Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, Stomp Out Loud features scenes shot on location in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, and also in front of a live theatre audience. According to a spokesperson from Boneau/Bryan-Brown, sequences include the cast-members "swinging off a billboard of a Queens rooftop, and the performers in water up to their rib-cages, playing off suspended metal tubes." Other scenes include "Basketballs," in which the troupe obstruct traffic in an alleyway and the quiet interludes of "Elevator" and "Cards."
