Stars of the stage and screen will join forces with activists, scientists, and thought leaders for the first World Water Day Summit & Concert, held March 24 at New York City's Gramercy Theater. Presented by Broadway performer Britton Smith (Be More Chill, Shuffle Along), and his band Britton & The Sting, the free, two-part event will honor water's significance as a vital resource.
Participants will include Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Be More Chill), Tony Award winner Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Kimberly Akimbo), Larry Owens (A Strange Loop), Columbia University's Dr. Shannon Maruqez, Nisha Swinton of Food & Water Watch, Mary Morton of the US Water Alliance, Elena Soterakis of BioBat, and Zainab Salbi of Daughters for Earth.
The all-day event will feature conversations surrounding the significance of World Water Day and how water inspires artistic creation, insights on pollution and the water footprint in our daily lives, a screening of Lynchburg Movie, Britton & The Sting's MAMA – A Theatrical Concert, and more.
Britton & The Sting is a funk liberation band that blends soul, gospel, and theatrical storytelling. Their album MAMA, releases this spring, with the first single, “Bucket of Love,” out March 20. Smith is also a cofounder of the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, which is a recipient of a 2020 Special Tony Awards.
