Following these seven cities with Menzel—which kicks off Oct. 13 at the Buell Theatre in Denver — the national tour will then continue across North America.
"If/Then is especially meaningful for me because I had the opportunity to develop it for several years with the creative team, whom I have come to consider family," said Menzel in a statement. "I'm so thrilled to launch the show's national tour and to send it off across the country and around the world. I am very much looking forward to sharing this original musical with Broadway fans who weren't able to travel to New York and see it there."
In an exclusive interview with Playbill.com in December 2014, Menzel said that the show was her "salvation."
"Yes, it explores a lot of intense themes that are close to my heart," she said about If/Then, a musical that follows a woman restarting and reshaping her life, "but to have the opportunity to be on the stage with the cast that I have and work through those things every day, it's been a total gift." If/Then is the original musical that reunites composer Tom Kitt, book writer/lyricist Brian Yorkey and director Michael Greif, the creative team behind the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal.
Menzel will launch the national tour at the Buell Theatre in Denver (Oct. 13-25) and will then play the Paramount Theatre in Seattle (Nov. 3-8), the SHN Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco (Nov. 10-Dec. 6), the Hollywood Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles (Dec. 8-Jan. 3, 2016), San Diego Civic Theatre in San Diego (Jan. 5-10, 2016), ASU Gammage in Tempe (Jan. 12-17, 2016) and Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa (Jan. 19-24, 2016).
Tickets for these engagements are only available to season subscribers.
"I am thrilled that Idina will be playing these select cities, in the time-honored touring tradition established by Broadway's leading stars like Angela Lansbury, Yul Brynner, and Ethel Merman," said producer David Stone. "I look forward to having audiences discover and embrace If/Then and to give Broadway fans across the country the unique opportunity to see a genuine superstar at the height of her powers, in a role that was literally tailored for her."
Additional casting for the tour will be announced at a later date.
According to producers, "If/Then is a contemporary new musical that follows two distinct storylines in the life of Elizabeth, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life in this city of infinite possibilities. When her carefully designed plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth's life splits into two parallel paths. If/Then follows both stories simultaneously as this modern woman faces the intersection of choice and chance."
If/Then features choreography by Larry Keigwin, set design by Tony Award nominee Mark Wendland, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Tony Award winner Kenneth Posner and sound design by Tony Award winner Brian Ronan.
The original Broadway cast recording is produced by Sony Masterworks and is available on iTunes.
If/Then recently played its final Broadway performance March 22, having played 29 previews and 401 performances.
