The organization will support and promote the art of stage management by funding education, training, and scholarships.

The Stage Managers' Association has launched a new philanthropic foundation with the aim of supporting and promoting the craft and art of stage management by funding education, training, and scholarships. The new organization will seek grants and accept tax-deductible donations towards its efforts.

Former SMA chair Elynmarie Kazle will serve as the foundation's president. The inaugural board includes Patreshettarlini Adams, John Atherlay, Rich Costabile, Nikki Hyde, Bill Hare, Marjorie Horne, Kazle, Amy Pell, Patricia Sutherland-Cohen, and Robert Sutherland-Cohen, with Matt DiCarlo, Joseph Drummond, and Arturo Porazzi serving on an advisory board.

The foundation will accept proposals for projects and public events from SMA members and non-members beginning November 1, with funding to be provided by the foundation for chosen proposals. Submissions will be accepted through December 15, with the announcement of the first round of grants expected January 15, 2023.
