Music Theatre International has released Something Rotten! JR. for licensing. With a book by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick and a score by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick, the musical ran on Broadway in 2015. This new edition of the show is part of the licensor's Broadway Junior catalogue, which adapts full-length musicals into 60-minute versions designed for performers aged 18 and under.

The satirical musical follows the Bottom brothers, both playwrights trying to best their superstar contemporary William Shakespeare. When a soothsayer predicts the next big thing in theatre will be the new and never-before-seen genre of song-and-dance, the brothers endeavor to write the world's first musical.

The original Broadway production was nominated for 10 Tony Awards in 2015, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. O'Farrell and the Kirkpatricks subsequently reunited for the Broadway musical adaptation of the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire.

“Watching the first ever Something Rotten! JR. performance that was presented to us in New York was one of the most joyous experiences we’ve had with this show," say both Kirkpatricks and O'Farrell in a joint statement. "It was so thrilling and rewarding to see this pared down version working so well—and the kids absolutely having the time of their lives. Pure joy. For us, but more importantly—for them.”

Companies performing Something Rotten! JR. are invited to create and print a Broadway-authentic program using PLAYBILLDER, which is the exclusive destination for making an authorized Playbill—complete with the iconic yellow logo on the cover—for local school and amateur productions. As part of the service's ongoing partnership with MTI, Something Rotten! JR. will be part of the tool's PLAYBILLDER Express library, which pre-loads licensor-approved billing information and character and song lists into your program automatically.
