The London production of Sister Act The Musical is set for an Australian debut later this year. The musical will open at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney in August 2024, then play the Regent Theatre in Melbourne beginning in November 2024. Casting will be announced at a later date. 

“It is a joyous thing to produce a musical that has never been seen in Australia before and I feel very blessed to be bringing Sister Act to our shores," producer John Frost said in a statement. "It’s a brilliant, must-see show that will lift audiences up and I know Australians will get into the habit of seeing again and again."

Based on the hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. The musical follows disco diva Deloris, who is placed in a convent for her protection, and must help her fellow sisters find their true voices as she rediscovers her own. 

The original Broadway production opened April 20, 2011, after transferring from the West End. It received five Tony nominations including Best Musical, and closed August 26, 2012. A London revival ran played the Manchester Palace Theatre in summer 2022, and is set to return to the West End, this time playing the Dominion Theatre, beginning in March 2024. A touring production is also currently playing in the U.K. and Ireland. 

Bill Buckhurst directs the musical, which features choreography by Alistair David. The creative team also includes set and costume designer Morgan Large, musical supervisor Stephen Brooker, lighting designer Tim Mitchell, and sound designer Tom Marshall.
