Hollywood's about to get a lot more corny. At the closing performance of Shucked on Broadway January 14, lead producer Mike Bosner took to the stage at curtain call to make an announcement: Shucked will be turned into a film, produced by Mandalay Pictures.

"We're all a little sad to say goodbye to this. But there's some good news. We don't have to say goodbye just yet. Because I'm happy to announce that we will be making a feature film of Shucked," Bosner told the audience, who erupted into cheers. He then led the cast and the audience in a singalong of the show's second act opener, "We Love Jesus."

According to the show's representatives, the film will be a screen adaptation of the musical produced by Mandalay Pictures. Jason Michael Berman (AIR) and Jordan Moldo are producing on behalf of Mandalay Pictures, along with Alan Fox.

Bookwriter Robert Horn will write the screenplay for the film. Horn, the show's composers Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, and director Jack O'Brien are executive producing. Casting has not been revealed.

The Shucked account on Instagram posted a video of the announcement, see it below.

Meanwhile, for those who want to visit Cobb County in person, Shucked will launch its North American tour in the fall beginning in Nashville, Tennessee (an apt choice considering its composers Clark and McAnally are country singer-songwriters based in Nashville). A 2025 West End debut is also in the works for Shucked. Australia will reportedly get a production in spring 2026.

Shucked is a funny and heartfelt musical about a corn-growing Midwestern community, which is thrown into turmoil when the corn crops begin to die. Its heroine Maizy leaves the town to find a corn doctor, who turns out to be a con man posing as a podiatrist. The show played 28 previews and 327 regular performances on Broadway. It received nine Tony nominations in 2023, with Alex Newell winning for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for their performance as Lulu (making history as the first non-binary actor to win a Tony award).

The original Broadway cast album of Shucked was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
