Richard Coyle, last seen in the West End in the Olivier-nominated Ink, will return to the London stage August 15 to play Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin's stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird at the Gielgud Theatre, succeeding current star Rafe Spall.

Also joining the cast that day will be Olivier winner Niall Buggy (Dead Funny, Aristocrats) as Judge Taylor. Spall and Jim Norton, currently playing Atticus Finch and Judge Taylor, respectively, will play their final performances August 13.

The cast also features Harry Attwell as Mr. Cunningham/Boo Radley, Amanda Boxer as Mrs. Henry Dubose, Poppy Lee Friar as Mayella Ewell, John Hastings as Bailiff, Simon Hepworth as Mr. Roscoe/Dr Reynolds, Laura Howard as Miss Stephanie/Dill’s Mother, Lloyd Hutchinson as Link Deas, Gwyneth Keyworth as Scout Finch, Tom Mannion as Sheriff Heck Tate, David Moorst as Dill Harris, Pamela Nomvete as Calpurnia, Patrick O’Kane as Bob Ewell, Jude Owusu as Tom Robinson, Harry Redding as Jem Finch, David Sturzaker as Horace Gilmer, and Natasha Williams as Mrs. Dubose’s Maid.

The ensemble and understudies include Helen Belbin, Laurence Belcher, Paul Birchard, Ryan Ellsworth, Rebecca Hayes, Danny Hetherington, Matthew Jure, Anna Munden, Tiwai Muza, Oyin Orija, and Itoya Osagiede with Candida Caldicot on organ and Ciyo Brown and Jack Benjamin on guitar.

Directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, the production began previews at the Gielgud March 10 prior to an official opening March 31.

Joining Sher and the original Broadway creative team—set designer Miriam Buether, costume designer Ann Roth, lighting designer Jennifer Tipton, sound designer Scott Lehrer, composer Adam Guettel, music supervisor Kimberly Grigsby, and hair and wig designer Campbell Young Associates—are casting director Serena Hill, voice and dialect coach Hazel Holder, associate director Titas Halder, assistant director Rasheka Christie-Carter, cultural coordinator Tavia Rivée Jefferson, and musical director Candida Caldicot.

To Kill a Mockingbird premiered in December 2018 at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre. On February 26, 2020—a few weeks before the Broadway shutdown—the Broadway cast gave a history-making free performance at Madison Square Garden in front of 18,000 New York City school children. Mockingbird, which resumed its Broadway run in October 2021, played its final performance at the Shubert January 16. The acclaimed production is scheduled to reopen at Broadway's Belasco Theatre on a date to be announced with Greg Kinnear returning to the role of Atticus Finch.

Set in Alabama in 1934, Harper Lee’s enduring story of racial injustice and childhood innocence centers on small-town lawyer Atticus Finch. The cast of characters includes Atticus’ daughter Scout, her brother Jem, their housekeeper and caretaker, Calpurnia, their visiting friend Dill, and a mysterious neighbor, the reclusive Arthur “Boo” Radley.

Barry Diller and Sonia Friedman produce.
