Prayer for the French Republic has extended its Off-Broadway run at New York City Center Stage I for two weeks. Originally slated to close February 27, the world premiere has now set its final performance for March 27 after previously being extended to March 13.
The Manhattan Theatre Club production was written by Joshua Harmon, known for his Drama Desk-winning play Admissions, and directed by Tony winner David Cromer (The Band's Visit).
The show follows a Jewish couple in 1944 awaiting the news of their missing family. It goes on to explore four generations of the family while examining questions of history, home, and the effects of ancient hatred.
Prayer for the French Republic's cast features Betsy Aidem (All The Way), Yair Ben-Dor, Francis Benhamou (Selling Kabul), Ari Brand (The Lucky One), Pierre Epstein (Plenty), Emma Geer (The Price of Thomas Scott), Peyton Lusk (Bar Mitzvah Boy), Nancy Robinette (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), Jeff Seymour, Kenneth Tigar (The Revolving Cycles Truly and Steadily Roll'd), and Richard Topol (The Normal Heart).
The production also has scenic design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker, sound design by Lee Kinney and Daniel Kluger, original music by Daniel Kluger, and hair and makeup design by J. Jared Janas. Richard Hodge is the production stage manager.
