Playwrights Horizons has set dates for its previously announced run of Francesca D'Uva's This Is My Favorite Song. The production will run November 19-December 8, with Sam Max at the helm. Opening night will be November 21.

This Is My Favorite Song is described in press notes as a "experimental fusion of stand-up and digital pop bangers," and "a musical fever dream about sex, grief, nannying, and Shakira." The work is an extension of D'Uva's song "I Don't Want to Do This Show," inspired by her attempts to return to performing following the death of her father from COVID.

“Theatre has always felt baked into Francesca’s comedy," says Max in a statement. "What I’m really attracted to about Francesca’s work and why I believe in it so much is its breakdown of the lines that have differentiated certain genres from each other—comedy, play, musical. In different parts of the world, those lines have been blurred for decades and decades in very obvious ways. Francesca’s work is similarly malleable. Her music may wear the costumes of certain genre containers. Whether with different sub-genres of pop, or country, or death metal, Fran uses genre as an entry point, as something outside herself, and finds herself within it to create something extremely personal and moving.”

The production will feature lighting design by Zack Lobel and scenic design by Carlos J Soto. Siena Yusi will be production stage manager.

Tickets are at PlaywrightsHorizons.org.
