Twenty years after winning a Tony for their score to Hairspray, Shaiman and Wittman are once again Tony nominees for their work on Some Like It Hot, which is the season's most Tony-nominated production with 13 nods. Winners for the top Broadway honors will be named June 11 at United Palace in Washington Heights, with a ceremony broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Peacock. The Sardi's celebration came just as the world learned of the passing of Queen of Rock and Roll Tina Turner. Shaiman honored the music icon at the keys playing her "River Deep, Mountain High" with Darlene Love and Annie Golden providing vocals. The performance quickly became a sing-along with everyone in attendance.
Shaiman followed the Tina Turner tribute with a performance of the title number from his and Wittman's Some Like It Hot, sung by the company of the Best Musical Tony Award nominee. The musical continues its run at the Shubert Theatre.
