The Broadway favorite will offer Norm Lewis: Summertime (Special Tony Edition) June 6-8 and June 10-12, all at 7 PM. The evenings will feature direction by Richard Jay-Alexander with musical direction by Joseph Joubert. Perry Cavari will be featured on percussion and drums with Michael Olatuja on bass.
The all-Broadway song list will feature tunes from Lewis' Main Stem outings as well as Broadway songs that inspired him and a few from musicals the actor hasn't had the chance to perform in.
Lewis earned a 2012 Tony nomination for his performance in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. In 2014 he had the distinction of becoming the first African-American actor to play the title role in Broadway’s The Phantom of the Opera.
Lewis’ other Broadway roles include Jake in the original production of Side Show (1997), Eddie in The Wild Party (2000), the Painter in Amour (2002), Billy Flynn in the revival of Chicago (2004), Javert in Les Misérables (2006), King Triton in The Little Mermaid (2008), part of the star ensemble in Sondheim on Sondheim (2010), Agwe in the revival of Once On This Island (2018), Reginald in Chicken & Biscuits (2021), and more.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
