Things are getting spooky this October at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Night of the Living Dead! The Musical! will return for a one-night-only concert presentation October 30 at the cabaret venue, with proceeds benefiting the theatre and the restaurant that houses it, the West Bank Cafe.
The venue announced it would close in August earlier this year, a date that has been pushed back following an online fundraising push. This concert's producer, longtime Laurie Beechman Theatre supporter Michael D'Angora, hopes the event will allow that date to extend even further.
The musical originally played Off-Broadway in 2019 at Theatre Row, with a cast that included Jaime Cepero (Smash), Michelle Dowdy (Hairspray), Michael Buchanan (The Book of Mormon), Susan J. Jacks (Forbidden Broadway), Meg Lanzarone (The Marvelous Wonderettes), and Jordan Wolfe. Mitchell Walker directed and choreographed. The concert performance is set to feature performances from original cast members plus special guests, with casting to be revealed in the coming weeks.
The show is a spoof of the cult favorite 1968 zombie film, which sees a town overrun by the undead looking for blood.
Tickets are available at WestBankCafe.com.
