The Public Theater has announced that the world premiere of The Outer Space, set to play a limited engagement at Joe’s Pub, has been extended one week. The new musical features a book and lyrics by Ethan Lipton and will be directed by Leigh Silverman.
Performances of The Outerspace will now run February 23–April 9, with an official opening set for March 8.
Lipton will also perform onstage in the debut production and will be joined by Vito Dieterle, Eben Levy, and Ian Riggs.
The new musical follows two people who buy an old spaceship in the hopes of creating a life somewhere else.
”[They] leave the noise, pollution and overpriced rents of Earth for the vast beauty and treacherous terrain of the final frontier,” read production notes. ”But can they survive the mission?”
The Joe’s Pub staging will feature scenic and costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Ben Stanton, and sound design by Nicholas Pope.
Tickets to the world premiere are available by calling (212) 967-7555, visiting Publictheater.org, or in person at the Taub Box Office at The Public Theater, located at 425 Lafayette Street, New York.
