A new musical adaptation of Florence Engel Randall's 1976 novel The Watcher in the Woods is in development, with music by Johanna Telander and a book and lyrics by Douglas Thompson. Saki Kawamura is attached to direct.

The project has recorded a complete studio demo with performances from Dayna Grayber, Troy Iwata, Izze Stein, Davna Ceron, and Julie James. A staged workshop is planned for fall 2024.

The work centers on Jan, who, while still recovering from losing her father, stumbles onto a 50-year-old mystery of a young girl's disappearance. The work was previously adapted for the big screen in 1980 by Walt Disney with Bette Davis, David McCallum, and Kyle Richards starring. Angelica Huston led a 2017 remake for Lifetime, directed by Melissa Joan Hart.
