A new musical short film by Christine Toy Johnson and Michael Mott, Riding Out the Storm, will be screened in New York October 30.

Directed by Bruce Alan Johnson, with a screenplay and lyrics by Johnson and music and score by Mott, the film will have three screenings at the Tribeca Screening Room. Executive-produced by Johnson for Moongate Productions, the 15-minute-long film will be screened at 6 PM, 7 PM, and 8 PM with a panel discussion with the creative team at 6:30 PM.

Featuring Mimi Bessette, Diana Huey, Mel Maghuyop, and Wade McCollum, Riding Out the Storm takes place the day Hurricane Sandy made landfall on Staten Island. Maternal figure Beth (Bessette) is forced to decide whether to evacuate the house her late husband built for the family or risk remaining steadfast until the end.

The score is orchestrated by Drama Desk nominee Kim Scharnberg and features musicians Bradley Bosenbeck, Geoffrey Countryman, Sasha Ono, David White, Adam Wolfe, Andrew Zinsmeister, and Joshua Zecher-Ross. Ross also serves as music director and music supervisor. 

Camera and editing are by Johnson, and special effects are by Tim McHugh and Glenn Campbell. Caleb Grissett was assistant director. Michael Croiter mixed and mastered the sound and music. The film is adapted from a ten-minute stage musical of the same name, written by Johnson and Mott. Actors appear with permission by and courtesy of SAG-AFTRA.
