The American Theatre Wing has announced the five recipients of its National Theatre Company Grants. The $100,000 awards are presented to regional theatre companies that have demonstrated innovative new strategies to successfully present the work of American playwrights.
The 2024 recipients are Mixed Blood Theatre, The Latino Theater Company, TheatreSquared, Camden Repertory Theater, and Baltimore Center Stage.
The regional theatre recipients are able to tailor the grant to their specific needs, with the only requirement being directing funds toward producing an American playwright's work. Examples of eligible projects include co-productions of world premieres, national not-for-profit tours of new work, regional or local debuts of work, fresh approaches to audience development and community outreach around new work, and educational or low-cost ticket initiatives that introduce younger and diverse audiences to new work.
The 2024 grant panelists were Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang, 11th chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts Jane Chu, Tony and Grammy-winning producer Mara Isaacs, Obie-winning director Leigh Silverman, Tony-winning producer Amanda Dubois, and marketing strategist Ian Weiss.
