Cerveris joins the previously announced Ricky Martin (Che) and, in her Broadway debut, Olivier Award-winning Argentinean actress Elena Roger (Eva). Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage and Tony Award winner Rob Ashford will direct and choreograph, respectively.
This is the first new Broadway production of the seven-time Tony Award-winning musical since it debuted on Broadway more than 30 years ago.
This production features the original Broadway score as well as the Oscar-winning "You Must Love Me," which was written by Lloyd Webber and Rice for the film version of the musical.
Additional casting, creative team members and performance dates will be announced at a later time.
Evita, which premiered as a two-LP recording starring Julie Covington (Eva) and Colm Wilkinson (Che), features a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics). Hal Prince staged both the original London and New York productions of the musical, which made stars of Elaine Paige (in London) and Mandy Patinkin and Patti LuPone (on Broadway). The score features such tunes as "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Buenos Aires," "A New Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall," "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You" and "Rainbow High." Madonna, Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Pryce starred in the film version; Roger headed the cast of the now-closed London revival.
The Marquis Theatre is the current home to the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Follies.
